What is an accidental sacrifice?
Most people make small sacrifices every day. Parents often will not eat the last snack in the pantry in order to offer it to their child. Spouses sometimes do the same. These are simple sacrifices that most of us feel good about.
However, there are times when we make an accidental sacrifice – sacrificing something important without being aware of what we are doing.
I read a quote on Twitter this morning by Anne-Maria which sums the definition up nicely.
“If you don’t sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes the sacrifice”. https://t.co/LDL0mR4U2Z#leadership#strategy pic.twitter.com/bsZyrzsZOJ— Anne-Maria Yritys (@annemariayritys) March 18, 2019
Such a simple statement, yet it contains profound wisdom.
We often don’t bother to continue with a dream or a goal because it just seems too difficult or inconvenient. In that process, we have accidentally sacrificed something much more sacred – the fulfillment of our own dreams and desires.
This is definitely good food for thought.
Perhaps it’s time to contemplate what sacrifices are necessary to achieve our life goals.
